Money and Happiness

Can You Have One Without the Other?

Are money and happiness mutually exclusive? Does money equal Happiness? Yes and No. It depends on your beliefs about wealth and happiness. Do you believe you need to have money to be happy? Or do you believe that it’s selfish to have a lot of money?

My life changed when I changed my beliefs about money and happiness.

I grew up in a family with constant financial struggles. Money, or more accurately, the lack of money was the single greatest cause of stress for both of my parents.

Of course it’s only natural that I picked up some of their dysfunctional beliefs about money such as:

  • People with money are either born into it or have to work extremely hard for it.
  • It’s wrong to have a lot of money while so many people in the world are living in poverty.
  • Only a small percentage of people can be wealthy.
  • You have to know the right people and make important connections to make a lot of money.
  • You have to be smarter than everyone else to earn a lot of money.
  • People like me never get wealthy.

Today I know without any doubt that I will NEVER struggle financially again. How do I know that? It’s simple; I just changed my beliefs about money and happiness.

My new beliefs:

  • Everyone deserves the freedom and peace of mind that having money can give you.
  • My only limitation about how much money I have is ME.
  • Having lots of money allows me to help more people.
  • I will always have enough money to do the things that are important to me.
  • I will find money making opportunities easily any time I want.
  • I deserve abundance in every part of my life, including wealth.

There are thousands of books and websites that can show you how to make money. None of them will work unless you believe that they will.

So how do you change your beliefs about money?

You just have to release your limiting beliefs about money.

You can start by changing your thinking about small things:

I believe I can manifest $100 to buy a sweater or I believe I will have money left over when I pay my bills this month. Focus on the sweater and the money in your checking account at the end of the month.

You have to start with small things so it will seem more achievable to you at first. So if you ask for $100 instead of a million dollars at first you can feel the possibility of it. As you get more and more confident in your beliefs about money, it will be easier to envision large sums of money coming your way.

As you start to do this more and more, you'll really see that the way you think about money and happiness is the single most important thing that effects how much money you have.

Start paying attention to what you're saying to yourself and to others about your finances. Stop telling people that you're broke, that you can't afford something, or that you're living from paycheck to paycheck.

This simple turnaround can change things drastically. Once you change your thinking, you may need to educate yourself on how to get my money to work for you.

Today, I don’t worry about money. Today’s economic conditions have many people living with fear and anxiety. I didn’t watch the news or read gloom and doom articles about the financial crisis (much to the annoyance of those around me). I never let it cross my mind (for more than a few seconds) that I would suffer because of the economy.

I know that whatever happens I will be okay.

If you want to attract more money into your life you have to change your thinking first. Think with an abundant mindset instead of one filled with scarcity and lack.
