Mindful Eating:
Want to lose weight? Forget Dieting!
If you’ve tried everything and still can’t lose weight, maybe you’ve never considered mindful eating.
To understand what this IS, it may be easier to understand what it ISN’T:Mindful eating is not: - Eating in front of the television
- Eating while driving in your car
- Eating while standing over the kitchen counter
- Eating that’s done unconsciously while you’re doing something else
Do you live on rice cakes and lettuce? Does that sustain you and make you feel energetic and healthy? Are you obsessed with low calorie and low fat food choices that make you feel deprived and unfulfilled?
When you have mindful meals, you can pretty much eat whatever you want, but you enjoy every bit of the food you consume. You are conscious of every single bite of food and the only thing you think about is the food you are eating. There is no guilt; just pure enjoyment. When you're in a hurry or eating unconsciously while you're mind is on somethng else, you miss all the wonderful flavors of food. You'll eat less when you notice and savor every bite of food and you'll be more aware of true hunger signals instead of eating out of boredom or emotional stress. So eat that plate of spaghetti and meatballs or that ice cream sundae, but make sure you enjoy it, you really taste all the flavors, and appreciate the smells, textures AND taste of every single bite! When you eat mindfully, you feel satisfied and won’t be constantly on the search for foods to fill you up.
If we're not willing to settle for junk living, we certainly shouldn't settle for junk food. ~Sally Edwards
