Midlife Parents
Midlife parents are becoming more and more common as more women delay having children for a variety of reasons today. Of course this is mostly because they’re focusing on careers when they’re younger. In our mothers’ generation, women went to school, got married and had children. That was the norm. Period. Today we’re so fortunate to have so many choices. And these choices are the exact reason why there are so many midlife parents. What are the pros and cons of waiting? Pros Most of the time you’re more prepared emotionally if you wait until you’re older to have children.Over 40 moms can often offer more financial security. If you have older children they can be a great help caring for your younger kids.Midlife parents are more likely to be established in their careers or have met most of their career goals. Many women are choosing adoption so the “biological clock” isn’t an issue. You’re never too old to love a child.Cons: You may not have as many other moms in your age bracket to bond with and gain support. This is becoming much less true in today’s world of social media where you can always find people to connect with. There may be increased health risks for mother and baby. This is also becoming less true today since many women are healthier than ever and also because adoption is so popular.Studies have shown that moms over 40 are more likely to need C-Sections.You may be mistaken for the Grandma instead of the Mom. (Small price to pay)
