Practice Meditation For Depression Relief
Learn how to be happy again through meditation

Practicing meditation for depression is an excellent way to get relief. Anyone who suffers from depression knows that it is a crippling mental condition. You might be entering into middle age, or firmly in the throes of it. You might be dealing with external pressures, such as your career, your relationships, your marriage, or just the daily stuff of life. Sometimes the overwhelming conditions of daily life can cause you to lose your hope and optimism for a better future. You might end up stretched to the limits with your responsibilities, and you might be feeling like you give so much energy to others, so you have nothing left for yourself. You might have temporarily forgotten that well being is truly all around you. You might have temporarily forgotten how to be happy. All of this can leave you feeling depleted, and depressed. Depression can immobilize you from performing your daily tasks, and more important, keep you from being all that you need to be for yourself. You need to be present for yourself, and for others. But you might not know how to do that in your current state. The key to overcoming depression, or depressing moments, is to find a way to channel your mind from being overwhelmed with sadness and hopelessness. There are several ways to go about this. A key way that is helpful is meditation. Meditation for depression focuses your brain in two different directions. Depression of course zaps your brain of energy. Meditation brings your mind back into a healthy focus. There have been studies on the effects of meditation and depression which has shown to be quite effective. The mind is amazing because in short, when it receives input or signals, the subconscious mind can't decipher what is reality or what is imagination. So when a person meditates on something positive for example, the mind will respond to those words or images in a positive way, and make a person feel better. Meditation for depression can provide relief in several ways: - You can use visualization to guide your mind into a more positive state. Here's an example of how this could work.
You close your eyes, and you imagine your favorite happy place, such as a beach. You can visualize the white sparkling sands. You see the aquamarine colored ocean. You imagine feeling soft, warm breezes that smells like the best suntan lotion. You might start to smile, because your imagination can trick your brain into believing that you are actually at a place such as this. Or, you might imagine yourself lying down in a field of cool, fresh grass. You might imagine the smell of fresh grass after a refreshing rain. Now, you might imagine yourself hearing a cool brook of water running close by. You might start to feel peaceful, because you have tricked your mind into believing that you are in a calm, safe, refreshing place. - You could meditate to block out all thought. Focus on a mantra, a flickering flame, or on your own breathing to quiet your mind of all worries, from being overwhelmed, or anything that is keeping you from well being.
- You can meditate to gain relief from stress, chronic pain, insomnia, anxiety, and as well as many other benefits of meditation. The increased relief, confidence, optimism, and inner peace you gain will do wonders for depression.
So you see, meditation for depression can pull the mind in different directions. But with meditation, you can direct your thoughts and feelings in a positive state. Maybe it will take imagery to overcome your depressive state. Maybe you need to repeat a mantra, or a phrase that will refocus your mind from the sad and negative thoughts. Or maybe you need to block out ALL thought. The important thing is that you are doing something, and not allowing yourself to sink into the black hole of depression. Don’t expect to go from depression to bliss overnight. Take small steps and just focus on feeling as good as you can for right now.
It's easier to teach you to have no thought than to have pure positive thought. When you quiet your mind you stop thought; when you stop thought you stop resistance; when you stop resistance--then you are in a state of allowing. ~ Abraham-Hicks
