Live With Purpose & On Purpose
How I learned to live like I was on vacation
Do you live your life as a spectator taking whatever comes your way or do you live with purpose and on purpose to ensure your life is a result of deliberate creation? Are you an active participant in your life?
If you are familiar with the Abraham-Hicks book Ask and It Is Given, you understand that segment intending is a powerful tool to help warm up, or pave the way for deliberately creating the various portions of your day. As you enter a different segment of your day (eating breakfast, driving to work, attending a meeting, answering the telephone, etc) you pave the way by focusing your mind on how you would like the activity to go. I had a recent A-ha moment while I was on vacation. During my recent trip to New York, I would automatically use this process throughout my entire trip without giving it much thought. - I would envision the most comfortable smooth plane ride
- I would picture the beautiful, luxurious, clean, hotel room
- I would think about the wonderful meal I was about to have
- I would appreciate the play I was about to attend
- I would envision the ease in which I would get around the city
- I would imagine perfect weather to walk the city from one end to the other
The entire trip was absolutely perfect and I visualized the entire thing in advance. I did this automatically without making a big deal about it. I was amazed at the results: - Upgraded seats were suddenly available on my fully booked flights
- Roomy aisle seats were available for the shows we saw
- We never had to wait for a taxi or a table at a restaurant
- Chefs would bring us their specialties on the house
- The weather was ideal for strolling through the parks
Well, you get the picture. It made me think how easy and automatic this process was on vacation, but not so much in “real life”. Why is that? Is it just that we get into the habit of our days without giving it much thought? On vacation it was so easy to live with purpose and on purpose. What if we took those few minutes before every activity and envisioned how we’d like it to turn out? Would our days be as wonderful as our vacations? I think so…..

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, to discover that I had not lived. ~Henry David Thoreau
