There are a lot of misconceptions about meditation. Many people think that it’s just for the religious or new agers. Some think it takes years to enjoy the benefits of meditation. I used to be one of these people. I never thought I would be someone who couldn’t go a day without meditating.
After incorporating gratitude and appreciation into your daily life, meditation is the next most important key to your happiness.
Unfortunately many people don’t try it because they have some false misconceptions about meditation. Don't let these meditation myths prevent you from trying this amazing experience.
Here are some easy meditation techniques to get you started:
Easy Meditation Techniques
Technique #1: Breathing Meditation
Sit in quite place where you won’t be disturbed. Wear comfortable clothes and find a comfortable chair (you don’t want to be so comfortable that you’ll be tempted to fall asleep. That’s why it’s better not to mediate in bed).
Close your eyes
Focus on your breaths – in and out, in and out, in and out. You can just pay attention to your inhaling and exhaling or you can count your breaths. Breathe naturally through your nose and just pay attention to your breath as you inhale and again as you exhale.
When your mind starts to wonder (and it will), just focus on your breathing again.
NOTE: Some find it easier to focus on an object instead of their breathing. You can focus on an object such as a flickering candle if that is easier for you.
If you haven’t been meditating because you think there’s a huge investment in time, you might be surprised to learn that you can meditate for as little as 1 to 8 minutes a day and receive all the benefits of mediation as those who mediate for hours. learn more
Okay, so you’re in a quiet, comfortable, secluded spot. You close your eyes and all you can think about is the work piled on your desk, or what you’re going to have for dinner. It can be really difficult at first to quiet your mind. We live in a world that’s busy and chaotic and we’re not in the habit of turning off our thoughts.
If you’re like me and find it challenging to turn off the noise in your head, you can still meditate and gain all the benefits that come with meditation by using meditation software. Learn More
There are many types of meditation – just keep trying different things until you find what works for you. In the beginning, just keep it simple. When you start seeing results you may become inspired to go to the next level. But for now, keep it simple.
I actually incorporate all 3 of the above easy meditation techniques into my day. I start the morning using a meditation CD. Throughout the day I add 1 or 2 minute meditations whenever I’m faced with down time (waiting at traffic light, in line at grocery store, waiting for my computer to boot up). Finally before I go to bed, I do a quick breathing meditation to clear my mind and get ready for a good night of sleep.
