How to Improve Your Aging Brain

You know you have an aging brain if you can’t remember your phone number or where you left the car keys; and if you lose your train of thought in the middle of a sentence.

Don’t worry, you’re most likely not going senile or in the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s – you’re brain is on overload AND THERE IS HELP.

What can you do to help your aging brain function like it used to?

  • Exercise: Geez, that’s the answer to everything isn’t it? Women who consistently exercise are less likely to develop dementia or Alzheimer’s.

  • Always learn new things: Education should never stop once you walk out of the classroom. Every day should be spent on learning AT LEAST one new thing. Exercising your brain is just as important as exercising your thighs.

  • Laugh: There are physiological effects of laughing that make your brain function better, such as increasing blood flow, oxygenation of the blood, and decreasing certain stress hormones.

  • Eat healthy: Studies show that baby boomers eating at least 3 servings of vegetables a day reduced the decline in mental abilities up to 40% compared to those who don’t eat their veggies.

  • Take supplements: Another solution for how to improve memory is to include supplements such as Omega-3 fatty acids, Omega-6, Choline, Ginko, Ginseng, Vitamin E, and Vitamin B6. They have all been reported to help cognition, especially as we get older.

  • Manage stress: Learn to relieve unhealthy stress which can negatively impact brain function.

  • Meditation: Short term memory and concentration can be improved by meditating every day. Meditation helps you clear your mind and release any resistance holding you back.

  • Foods to improve memory: It’s been reported that dark chocolate, blueberries, omega-3 rich fish, and green and white tea can improve memory and concentration.

  • Take CoQ10: Studies show it reduces fatigue and brain fog.

An aging brain does not have to mean a declining brain. Like anything else, you have to take care of your mind for it to thrive. Click here to learn more ways to improve your memory.
