Accepting change is the key to being happy as we get older

Accepting change is hard for most people and can be especially challenging as we age. We are not born into this life to experience just one thing. If everyone was always young and beautiful there would be no growth, development or progress. We came to experience EVERYTHING and that includes the changes we face as we get older.

The problem comes when we start to associate aging with decline, have a fear of aging, or we struggle against the natural aging process.

People who are happy, healthy and thriving from midlife through their senior years are not complaining about their aches and pains, wishing they were 20 years old again or feeling regrets about their advanced years. They have accepted where they are and appreciate every new day.

Having an accepting, open, optimistic attitude can:

  • Improve health
  • Prevent premature death
  • Help speed up the recovery process after surgery or illness
  • Reduce emotional stress
  • Provide an overall sense of happiness and well being
